RIP Starship Pegasus

On my way back from Dallas recently, I came across the most pathetic roadside attraction I've ever seen.

Starship Pegasus
The mixing of science fiction (starship) and fantasy (pegasus) is a bit odd, though Blade Runner had a unicorn in it. Maybe it's a homage.

putt-putt fallen into disrepair
Mini-golf is totally futuristic. I would have played a round, but it appeared to be closed for good.

hopefully the dilithium crystals were properly disposed of
At first I was suffused with ironic glee, then it just made me slightly depressed.

Now it's just a Pace Age Fantasy.

  1. This was one of the best places to go for food.It was reasonable and if you log onto their website, they have a huge following who wanted to have it reopened. Alot of people were really sad when the economy hit the area hard and the place had to shut down. As far as I can tell, this is the only site that is negative about this place. To bad, you missed the whole point. Look on their website and get some insite to what they really wanted to achieve.

  2. Steeling myself, I went to the website. It just made me more sad. Good for the founder having big dreams, but he wanted to develop it from a pizza and sub joint with a mini-golf course to a "four year accredited college for a college degree in space exploration. The facility will have a hotel/convention center..." The passion is certainly there, a grasp of business fundamentals isn't.

But then, I'm a city guy, decidedly not a small town guy.

  3. Just because you do not see the possibilities does not mean someone else does not. The dream is still there, I know him. In fact, I can tell you, it will be a flea market soon. We are also opening up the restaurant again when we have the money. Flea market starts soon though.

  4. Isn't it amazing how the most interesting things come out of obscurity. The person that created this really has a good grasp of "thinking outside the box". I have read alot about this person and he has accomplished alot. And he is from a "big city" but was smart enough to get out of it before his creativity was squashed to conformity. There is to much negtivity in the world, it's nice to see someone who wants to create a positive place where people can once again dream big dreams. Sorry na sayer you loose on the importance of this.

  5. All I can say is this is a really I talked with a lot of people around here and most of them said if it hadn't been for the two hurricanes and the economy they would have still been in buisness and would have built more. As far as knowing what is good business sence and what is not. Well, he has it going for him, just need more money.
